about

The November before Covid, Dustin was stateside to visit family, and Cark decided to play a no-practice show in Ashland. To up the ante, I thought we should also only play new songs we’d never even played before.
Since we try to include whatever Japanese themes we can, I had initially wanted to cover “Fujiyama Mama,” by Wanda Jackson, but it didn’t feel quite Cark enough, so I ended up using the iconic rock and roll motifs she used on this and “Let’s Have a Party” (both in the comments for comparison) to write this instead.
Then I sent this song and about a half dozen others to Dustin as voice memos. This was the only one we ended up playing that night, but it was still a fun tight-rope to walk, and taking an audience poll of who thought we could pull it off was a a great way to get folks engaged in the performance.
And man was it fun when the whole crowd did their call and response Godzilla mating calls.
Enjoy! Or don’t! Decide for yourself.

lyrics

Some people like to rock
Some people like to roll
But when I hit the stage
I do Godzilla’s mating call

Ah baby
Come out the ocean and play
Oh Kaiju mama
Wash this town away

Some people like to sing
Some people like to shout
But when I rock and I roll
I like let the demons/Dinos/kaijus out

Ah baby
Come out the ocean and play
Oh Kaiju mama
Wash this town away

Aaaaaaaaaaaa!
Aaaaaaaaaaaa!
Aaaaaaaaaaaa!
Aaaaaaaaaaaa!

Some monsters like to ball
Some monsters like to mash
But when I hit the stage
I wanna stomp and smash

Ah baby
Come out the ocean and play
Oh Kaiju mama
Wash this town away
