Shark-Wrangling Band

from Carkey Malarkey (Digital Deluxe) by Cark

about

I don't remember how it ended up there, but there used to be a squeaky rubber shark toy on Dustin's drum set. It fit over the high-hat stand, and sometime he would play the shark during especially unhinged drum solos. We named it Deep Throat.
At the time, Cark was playing live a lot. And rather than just play the songs we knew and rehearsed, Cark would frequently ask the audience what they wanted the next song to be about, and then make it up on the spot. The time someone shouted out, "Oil futures!" was a challenge, but we made it work.
It was such a regular practice that on our first album, Superhellamegaepic, there's actually a song called "The Torquer," that I made up as I sang it in the studio (about making lyrics up on the spot) and another one that VAM recorded as "Sing an Angry Song," that was originally a Cark tune called "Don't Bother Writing Your Songs."
Anyhow, one day we were playing a gig--live on KPSU if I remember correctly--and someone shouted for us to sing a song about the shark.
This is the song that came out. And it came out pretty much exactly like this.
One of my dreams for Cark is to actually play an entire show like that, to walk on stage and improv an entire set from audience suggestions. It probably won't ever happen. But it would be helluva tightrope to walk.
Fun fact: Though it got cut for time out of the final recording, you could originally hear my dog freaking out about my vocal recording at the end of the song. I think he thought I was posessed. But he seems to feel the same way about shopping carts and skateboarders as well. So who knows.
Anyhooters, enjoy! Or don't! Your choice!

lyrics

Cark is a shark-wrangling band
Cark is a shark-wrangling band
Don’t you give us no heifers, or give us no swordfish
This here’s a shark-wrangling band

It happened in China one day
It happened in China one day
We met rubber deep throat, the shark that is goat
And now we’re a shark-wrangling band
